Our Story: Why We Built SmarterView

We built SmarterView to solve our own problems. Now we're making it available to every service business that's tired of working harder instead of smarter.

Our Founders

Scott Cooper

Co-Founder & Partnerships

Scott's helped scale tech companies like Go1, Drawboard, and Hockey Stick Advisory by building systems that actually work. He's the guy who sees the pattern before everyone else does; the marketing strategist who thinks like an operations person, which turns out to be precisely what service businesses need.

At SmarterView, Scott brings that same approach: forget the complexity, focus on what moves the needle. He's spent his career helping SaaS and service companies grow through smarter automation and strategic partnerships. Scott's the one asking, "But does it actually help?" when everyone else is excited about adding features.

Leigh Kelly

Co-Founder & Operations

Leigh's spent nearly 20 years in service-based media, from managing freelance teams to executive leadership at one of Australia's leading automotive media companies. She's seen every version of the "busy but broke" problem from every angle.

What Leigh learned through all those years was how to spot profit leaks at the granular level. She figured out how to fix them without burning out your team or losing your best people.

At SmarterView, that's exactly what she does: helps businesses plug the leaks through efficient scheduling, accurate pricing, and keeping employees actually satisfied. High turnover costs you more than most people realise, and Leigh knows how to keep good people around.

Arthur Truong

Co-Founder & Product

Arthur led a national team of photographers in a fast-paced media company, living the scheduling nightmare every single day. Coordinating people, managing resources, keeping projects on track when everything's moving.

There was no tool that actually made it all easier. So Arthur and the team did what frustrated people with the right skills do: they built their own.

That hands-on experience is why SmarterView works the way it does. Arthur knows exactly what information matters when you're allocating the day's work, and what's just noise. SmarterView is the tool he wished he'd had all along.

Why/how it all began

Three years ago, we were running a photography business that looked successful on paper. Revenue was climbing month after month. We should've been celebrating.

Instead, we were stressed.

While the money coming in kept growing, the money staying in our account didn't. We were stuck in that horrible place so many service businesses know too well: busy but broke.

We were paying photographers for four-hour shifts to handle jobs that took 45 minutes. Scheduling based on gut feel and assumptions. Some clients were wildly profitable. Others were costing us money, and we had no idea which was which.

When we asked our accountants for help, they could only offer generic advice. “Look at your pricing.” The issue is, we had nothing to actually look at except for meaningless (and seemingly endless) spreadsheets.

So we did what any frustrated business owner would do: we started a software company (obviously).

We started simple

$70,000
Total money left on the table, per month

By tracking actual time spent on actual jobs, we got real data instead of assumptions. What showed up in the numbers was shocking.

We were hemorrhaging $20,000 every single fortnight on scheduling inefficiencies we didn't know existed. Another $30,000 every month was sitting right there in incorrect pricing, like clients we were undercharging, or jobs we'd badly miscalculated.

We didn't fix it by working harder. We didn't hire more people or chase new clients. We just stopped guessing and started scheduling based on what the data actually showed us. We allocated work properly. Priced accurately. Stopped paying for time that didn't need to exist, and suddenly, we were profitable.

Why we're not keeping this to ourselves

When we showed our accountants what we'd built, they didn't congratulate us on solving our own problem. They asked: “Why doesn't every service business have this?”

Most software tries to do everything with unnecessary features and complex dashboards. You end up paying for tools you don't use to solve problems you don't have.

We built the opposite.

Simple tools for real problems

SmarterView does exactly two things:

  1. Efficient scheduling based on actual data
  2. Accurate pricing based on real time spent

That's it. No feature bloat. No complexity, having you pay for forty-eight things you'll never touch.
